Why Some People Cry During KAP
It’s one of the things people quietly worry about: what if I cry in front of strangers? If that’s on your mind, here’s the reassuring truth — crying during KAP is common, completely normal, and nothing to be embarrassed about.
Crying is simply a form of release
When the body relaxes deeply, it sometimes lets go of what it’s been holding, and tears are one of the ways that happens. It doesn’t mean something is wrong. More often, it’s a sign that you’ve softened enough to let something move.
It doesn’t need a story
You don’t have to know why you’re crying, and you don’t have to explain or analyse it afterwards. It’s tempting to reach for a dramatic interpretation, but you really don’t need one. Sometimes the body just releases, and that’s enough.
Not everyone cries
Plenty of people never shed a tear in a KAP session. Some rest, some feel gentle movement, some notice very little at all. None of these is more ‘successful’ than another. A subtle session is just as valid as an emotional one.
You’re held, not exposed
In a session your eyes are closed and your attention is on your own experience. You’re not on display, and there’s no expectation to produce emotion or perform anything. The facilitators hold the space precisely so you can let go without worrying about how it looks.
Afterwards: be gentle with yourself
If emotion does surface, give yourself a little room afterwards. Hydrate, rest, and keep your day soft if you can. It’s normal for feelings to ripple on for a day or two as things settle — part of what we call integration. There’s more on this in what you may feel after a session.
In short: crying in KAP is a normal release, not a problem, and not something to analyse. Some people cry, some don’t — both are completely fine. You’re held the whole time.
This article touches on emotional wellbeing. KAP isn’t therapy or a substitute for professional support. If you’re carrying something heavy, please consider speaking with a qualified professional alongside any practice.
